Excel 2003 - How to create your own XLA?

How can you create a .xla file if you want to create your own xla? I have code, classes, shapes, etc ... What is the process of creating an xla file? I know that I need to put it in a folder with program files, and then follow the steps to add an "add-in" to xls ... but I mean actually save the xla file to point to ....

Is it possible to just write all this in xls and then save it as an xla file type ?? because I tried to do this, but I get an error that it is not a valid add when I am in a spreadsheet trying to point to it?

thanks!
