How to make beautiful and stylish apps like Timely

Google quote on design and sample applications:

Based on Google ’s http://developer.android.com/ in the development section, the developer should consider three goals:

  • Enchant me
  • Simplify my life
  • Make me awesome.

What BTW we (developers) know.

After looking at the many successful apps in the game store, you can see that they are designed with Google’s design guidelines in mind and to a large extent use the same components and themes and styles that Google uses in their apps.

Many people enjoy these projects, as well as these Android standards, in terms of themes and components, but when you look at some applications in the Playstore or some applications for equipment manufacturers, such as samsung , that have created their own special applications (for example, a note application galaxies 10.1 for notes ) or asus weather app or in the playstore Timely application, which is amazing in terms of functionality and course design, you can see that they use different types of design and components.

Now let's delve into what Google says :

A typical Android application uses action bars, and many applications will include a navigation box.

Like these:

Action bar: enter image description here

Navigation Box:

And other standard components on Android.

But how some developers can make applications so beautiful and functionally perfect (almost!), Like the Timely application, and not use many of the typical Android components defined by google.

Let's look at the Timely App:

This is a screen on which the user can see alarms, where he can set one or just watch the clock:

Now the questions that come to my mind:

  • How can I customize the theme of my application?
  • How can I make such background animations and use them in my applications?
  • Did their developers use unity and eclipse together to make it function as an Android app?
  • If they used unity, then why does the application work very smoothly?
  • In the action bar, how did they colorize it and determine the opacity for the object?
  • What class of animation can do what they did in the application? (e.g. animation of time change in hours)
  • If they used a unit, then how is their application size 10 MB?

There are many other similar applications (no more than 100% similar) that have their own special design.

As far as I understand, the websites that offer special components for Android are not as many as http://androidviews.net/ , so it seems that we are forced to make our own components that take a lot of time at this time ( 2013) are not ideal, while for ios there are many custom components made by other companies.

I also looked at the Timely app’s website and there’s a place in the FAQ section where they said that they will tell you what and how they did the themes, coloring and components, but since there is no timeline for their announcement, and I don’t like to stay in a dark area, I came here to ask you experts.

This is a quote from their website :

I am a developer and I just can’t understand how you made these animations and color effects.

In the future we plan to create a technical blog. Stay with us!

If you guys know how to make such applications, or know what part of the animations, components, tricks and hacks they used, you just made my day.

They made a presentation in which they explain how they calculate the colors of the presentation, the problems they had with it, and several other useful tips. Presentation video available on your YouTube channel

Morphing numbers is quite simple and is explained in this article , and you can find the full View class from the article here .

From the Android Developer Developer's Site Helping you create beautiful, powerful, successful apps , it's just awesome.

Android Design , an online style guide that outlines principles, building blocks, and patterns for excellence in Android user interfaces. It seems to work

I hope this answers at least one of your questions.
