What does xp_qv do in SQL Server?

Serious problems arose on one of our SQL servers last night, and after a colleague stopped and started all the usual things, he started checking and restoring databases and now starts an extended stored procedure called "xp_qv".

There seems to be very little information on the Internet about what this procedure does or something like this, so I was hoping that someone here could help.

I have to add that I assume that it is intended to work, so the question is not “Can I stop it” or something like that, its just curiosity about what it is doing, in the hope that it will help determine how long before things become useful again ...

This is the only information I could find.

xp_qv, located in xpsqlbot.dll, is a wrapper around functionality in sqlboot.dll, which returns information about SKU type, licensing, etc. not documented, so you may not find the link.
