What is the best way to write faster on Vim using a non-English keyboard?

I usually use Vim, and it is great for doing some things faster than other editors. However, since I live in Argentina, I have a Latin American keyboard that makes everything in Vim slower (to write / search, I have to press Shift + 7).

Since I don’t want to constantly change the keyboard layout (and it’s quite difficult to get used to pressing characters, like on an English keyboard), I was wondering if there is a vim plugin (from a .vimrc file) that can be useful for international users.

Just for the sake of this, here's how the Latin American keyboard unfolds:

By the way, I would like to go and buy an English keyboard, but, unfortunately, I use a laptop.

Sorry. You have at least a few options:

  • Since you said you would like to buy an English keyboard, I would recommend just changing the keyboard layout. on Windows, you can do this in the "Regional settings" section. On the Linux base console, you can use loadkeys . In X11, you can use setxkbmap .
  • Just live with him as he is. Helping vim will make the most sense this way.
  • Search for a language map for your Latin American keyboard. For example, look this one for dvorak .

I use the Dvorak keyboard layout and I just live with it the way it is. If there is a team or two that are very bulky, match them with something easy on the keyboard. There will inevitably be other shortcuts that are easier due to different keyboard layouts, but overall performance will depend on your layout and what features you use.

You can use the translit3 plugin to enter non-latin1 characters on a latin keyboard. Just select one keyboard layout and write a transliteration table to use other characters.
