I recently switched to macbook. I missed the correct control key and my little finger started to hurt, and so I matched my Cmd with Ctrl inside emacs alone, and I matched Caps for Ctrl and Ctrl to Caps throughout the system.
Does anyone have a better config before I get used to it? What is yours? I'm especially interested in keyboard layouts.
Edit: I have been using aquaemacs and this too for the last few days.
Edit2: I reset the mapping between Cmd and Ctrl because it was strange since Cmd is in the position where Meta is usually on other keyboards.
Blocking Caps is a control. Never use a capsule (as an alternative, tie it to a congron you no longer need). Cmd meta.
Also, while you are on it, ditches aquamacs. He was long called "not tricky enough." Emacs 23 now comes with the cocoa interface, which makes it nice to look at OSX, so the main reason for using it is no longer needed.

I recently bought a MacBook Pro in early 2011. At first I started Mac OS X and could not observe the lack of symmetry for the control keys and meta (alt), as is usually the case on PC keyboards. But these MBP keyboards have the symbolically symmetric option (aka alt) and command (aka apple / win) keys adjacent to both sides of the space bar. And even better, the System Preferences function allows you to reassign these keys (and one control key). Therefore, I press the "command" on the control key, "control" on the two option keys and "alt / meta" on the two command keys. It worked for me to such an extent that I could no longer stop on Mac OS X and put Kubuntu on my laptop. :-) Kubuntu pretty much provides the same functionality, fwiw.
Personally, I believe that it is best to display both the Command keys and both Option keys on Meta (now you will have more Metas that you can press and reduce random errors). I use Super little for the key, but if you do, you might consider using options for it. Caps need to be reassigned to Control - but this is general advice, no matter which keyboard it has. The most valuable key set advice I can give you is to reassign Return (only on hold) to βManage,β as described here . I used to reassign the correct control option, but it was always inconvenient (+ I lost a valuable key in this way). The Return β Control solution was really a fantastic improvement for me (and hopefully for others as well).

I am in the same situation. I finally decided the following comparison, which took only a day to get used to:
command => option , option => control , control => command ,
command
option
control
I just leave the lid locks as they are.
Download the Karabiner app. Move the right option to right control . Done.
