Windows Volume Shadow Copy Error: 2155348129

Development of an application for recording VSS:
see this error during backup initiated by the windows backup tool, are there any error codes for Microsoft 2155348129 ?

The backup operation that started with '2010-07 07: 20T02: 54: 19.354000000Z' failed because the shadow copy operation of the volume to create a shadow copy of the volume backups failed with the following error code '2155348129'

This does not happen if the VSSwriter service (my application) is stopped.

Any help is appreciated. Nothing was found in TechNet.

Workaround for hackish : Interestingly, the backup works when the "Windows partition is activated." Of course, this leaves the system unloaded at reboot.

TechNet Blog

Decimal 2155348129 0x807800A1 in hexadecimal format .

A quick search on the Internet for this value will lead me to this blog:

This is HRESULT

This error code has a special type called HRESULT .

Namely, related to VSS HRESULT

And TechNet has a table that indicates our HRESULT value:

Note: VSS not suitable for Volume Shadow Copy Service . SPP abbreviated for Shared Protection Point . They are logged in the regular Windows application event log. And they use VSS and SPP as their event- Source -identifier.

I had a similar problem with VSS and SBS backup errors.

In my case there was no free disk space

Support for Dell Pro (very good) has discounted the hard drive configuration issue that is mentioned throughout www. They said to keep track of hard drives that are very low in space, causing VSS problems for backing up the server, but that was not the case.

Check VSS Record Status

My fix:
Run vssadmin list writers and make sure they stop as part of the backup. A reboot or two should return them to their normal state. Try to backup now. Check if any SharePoint updates caused problems. Run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard from the Start menu (Next, Next, Finish), restart the backup, and start the backup.

Hope this helps someone else - let me know if you need more information.

I had this problem on my W Server 2008 R2 server. Finally, I found that the virtual server instance is running on my hyper-v server. Apparently, there is an error that cannot handle the parallelism of v-server backups and the real server.

I believe that I read that there is a fix in the knowledge base:

At shutdown of the (not important) virtual machine, the problem was resolved.

The Sharepoint Foundation is causing this problem. By running the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard, it will fix the backup problem.

The answer from mtechnical put me on the right track, sorry, you do not have enough votes to vote for you.

The reason was the SharePoint VSS writer

Basically, the vssadmin list writers allowed me to see that SPSearch4 VSS Writer started everything with an inconsistent shadow copy error, and a few quick google searches later I was fine.

Hope this helps you get where you need to be.

The main reason was the SharePoint service pack.

In case someone else gets here because of a backup failure in SBS 2011 even with a clean installation with all the fixes, the reason is related to the SharePoint Server service pack . To enable the launch of the Sharepoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard . After that, you can re-run vssadmin list writers and see that all errors are cleared.

I had a SQL server installed. With too many databases. When I deleted some databases, the error disappeared and the backup could continue as usual.
