How to write a JIT library?

I have been browsing through many JIT libraries. But I would like to learn to write.

Softwire looked beautiful. Although what should the emitter interface do? Can I do something better than existing libraries? How to support inline caching?

I would recommend you join an existing team, rather than starting from scratch. The PyPy team in this area is very interesting and is currently under development, so it can be a good place to start and look for more information, and then maybe help.
