E-Mail Header: MIME-Version: 1.0 - When Should I Use It?

This can rightfully be construed as a question for beginners.

Consider the following email header:

MIME-Version: 1.0

My questions:

  • When should you stamp an email with this header?
  • When should you omit this email header?

EDIT: Is it true that whenever you specify the heading "Content Type", no matter what the content type is, you should also specify "MIME-Version"? [ This link told me the opportunity.]

According to Wikipedia , you should use the "MIME-Version: 1.0" header when you send an email that contains one of the following:

  • Text in non-ASCII character sets
  • Non-Text Attachments
  • Multiple Part Message Body
  • Header information in non-ASCII character sets
