WYSIWYG text editor for iPhone Safari?

After several tests with my iPhone on different sites (several Django, etc.) I looked at the WYSIWYG editors and realized that they did not work very well on small touchscreen devices such as the iPhone. Infact, TinyMCE (which I use for most Django projects) just doesn't work at all.

So, I'm curious if there is a solution that allows you to perform simple text editing functions for text fields running on iPhone Safari? ... even simple things like bold, italics, lists, etc. Or will I have to come up with my own?

Thank you for any information and acknowledge this issue.

I'm afraid you will have to do it yourself, because all versions of the browser for iphone are pretty much cut down in functionality (which is why TinyMCE does not work).

Having done some research on this issue on my own, WYSIWYG are terrible in Mobile Safari in all directions due to the lack of functions in the browser.

See this topic in CLEditor discussing the issue: http://groups.google.com/group/cleditor/browse_thread/thread/bc64062dae8a22dc

Speaking of this, using CLEditor, you at least get a useful text area on Mobile Safari.

The Mobile Safari HTML 5 implementation does not support the contenteditable attribute, so most of the best WYSIWYG text editors (TinyMCE, FCKEditor, YUI RTE) are now disabled on iPad and other iOS devices. Disappointment, of course.
