Does dpi resolution matter for web browsers?

In the past, I saw cases where images that were not 72 dpi were not displayed in some web browsers, primarily Internet Explorer 7. However, it’s strange, I have tested this recently, and it seems that 300dpi images are displayed in IE .

Does DPI mean more to the web? Will some DPI photos not display in some web browsers?
