Emacs: Continuous Region Selection

Emacs extension markerpen.el ( link text ) allows you to capture arbitrary regions in your buffer. With this extension, the added highlighting is lost as soon as you kill the buffer. However, it would be nice to select arbitrary regions of the file in a โ€œpermanentโ€ way - in the sense that the added hightlighting will not be lost after the file is closed.

Do you know that I could have such a โ€œpermanentโ€ highlight?

Many thanks.

Yes, such a function exists . And you can add highlighting in any number of ways, including sweeping the style of the mouse marker.

At the moment, such a function does not exist, so you need to create an extension for markerpen.el , which created a metafile containing the selected points in each file that had them. (I would suggest creating a metafile for each file)

When setting labels every time one is added to markerpen-overlays , you can update the associated metafile.

When downloading any file, you can check for the presence of the metafile (or when you called the markerpen library)

Then upload the metafile and create tags.
