Django - url with auto slash

I am using django admin on my website. When I enter the url without a slash after the admin ( http://example.com/admin ), I get a 404 error. I thought django automatically adds a slash at the end of the url. Of course, when I enter the URL, it ends with a slash, it works fine. What am I doing wrong, or what settings do I need to change. Thanks for any ideas.

Try setting APPEND_SLASH to true in the settings. Secondly, I think the default is true.
