Is there a porting of the Love2D engine http://love2d.org/ to iPhone / iPad?
Yes! You can find the iOS download ( love-[version]-ios-source.zip ) on the Bitbucket download page. It contains documentation on how to use it.

Unfortunately, not yet. The reason may be that Apple only allows static libraries on the iPhone.

Bill Meltsner has begun work on the iPhone port. Check this out, this is current, y only works in the simulator, but it seems to be developing pretty well: https://bitbucket.org/bmelts/love-iphone/overview
Now it is! Look at the Love2D forum post right here
It is stable and works, at least Xcode 4.3, which works on iPhone, iPad, Simulator, as well as on a real device, is required.
A good day
The closest alternative could be the Moai framework . It is a free, open source, Lua-based game engine / library such as LรVE, but in addition to working on Windows, Mac, and Linux, it runs on iOS and Android (and apparently also doesnโt know in Chrome how it works, have not tried it yet).
The API is slightly lower than LรVE, but from what I have seen so far, it looks exceptionally well designed and very fast. Wolf Toss (also available on Android) was written with it.
