What is the advantage of the W3C box model over IE5?

I think the IE5 box model is more like human logic to the concept of a box, including append and border. It can directly determine the width and height of the window.

In cases where you have an element with a width of 100%, the IE5 box model allows you to add add-ons and is safe. Compare this with the correct CSS field model, in which you cannot add any padding or borders to an element with a width of 100% without breaking the layout

So can anyone explain this in detail? What are the benefits of the W3C box model?

thanks

An example of 100% is sometimes a valid issue with the W3C box model, however, this is mostly a moot point, because you can use the following code and achieve what you call the β€œIE 5 model”:

box-sizing: border-box; /* probably not needed in 2016 */ -moz-box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-box-sizing: border-box;

box-sizing is available in all major IE8 + browsers. I use it exclusively now; In my opinion, Microsoft did it right.

The main advantage of using the W3C box model is that the adoption speed of the IE5 box model is reduced, to say the least. Most people should consider IE6 obsolete, no matter IE5.
