IDEA is a great development environment. Android support is good, with the exception of the WYSIWYG layout editor, which IDEA does not have. This is not a huge problem since I found that the one in Eclipse does not work on time anyway.
I have been using IDEA for a long time (many years) and am happily paying for a commercial license. I believe the user interface will be more intuitive and more productive than Eclipse. Code improvements are smarter, editing is generally smoother, debugging is a bit more reliable (although neither IDEA nor Eclipse seems to have flawless integration with adb - probably adb problems).
Eclipse has slightly better integration with some Android tools, such as DDMS, which can be placed in perspective in Eclipse.
If you find that Eclipse is confusing and frustrating, try IDEA. The IDE options are very personal, so I can not promise that you will like it better, but since Android support is now included in the IDEA community version, you have nothing to lose, but for a while.
No, I do not work for JetBrains, but as a long-paying customer, I can also vouch for the quality of support for my customers.
