What are good services for checking the external IP address of a machine?

Question

I am working with an API that requires the external IP address of a device. I realized that I cannot do this without relying on an external server.

I have used whatismyip.com in the past:

wget -q -O - http://whatismyip.com/automation/n09230945.asp

What are some other services for checking the external IP address of a machine? Since I am concerned about a single point of failure, I would like to have several options with which I can fail.

http://api.externalip.net/ip works great for me, works great and fast. no reg exp required
