I would like to be able to control the volume of the system microphone in the browser.
I know that a microphone can be recorded using Flash or Silverlight, but they do not allow you to control the microphone volume. (Flash has Microphone.gain , but as its software multiplier, this does not help when the volume of the system microphone is muted or too loud.) I believe that the microphone could be modified using a reliable Java applet via JNI, but getting Java installed on a user computer, hard for ill-conceived users. (Not to mention the issues with having Applet boot sequentially.)
I heard that HTML5 will have some kind of microphone access, but it wonβt let me control the volume. In any case, I do not think that browsers do not yet support it.
Are there any plugins that allow you to adjust the volume? The old Google Gears project has some AudioApi documents, although they do not seem to be included in this plugin. There's also a Google Talk plugin - it seems to do some gain control, but it's not clear if there are any api for the plugin.
Perhaps there is a plug-in implementation project HTML5 for access to the microphone (for example, indexeddb )?
