English vocabulary needed for word play

Question

I’m looking for a way to include a full-fledged English dictionary in an application for iPhone (text game), the database should be able to include all conjugation features for verbs, it should include exceptional and multiple spellings. Therefore, my application can query the database to verify the spelling.

Is there a free or commercial database that will include this data?

NSSpellChecker is your easiest option, but it might be more complete to use the Scrabble online dictionary and also test it for both (only one match is required).

You can fulfill the web service request using http://www.hasbro.com/scrabble/en_US/search.cfm

You can use UITextChecker to check spelling.

As for the dictionary, when I ever created the iOS dictionary library ( www.lexicontext.com ), I used WordNet. WordNet contains a lot of interesting semantic information ...

The best place to look for a spellchecking database is probably a free word processing application. So, I would try with the Open Office version of Word. Download it, install it and just find the dictionary file.

Open Office is licensed under the LGPL, so it should be fine, just check to see if the license extends to data (i.e. a dictionary file).
