What is the difference between boost :: bind and boost :: lambda :: bind?

I see that there are two different linking libraries for Boost: one is "standalone" which can be used, including boost/bind.hpp , and the other with boost/lambda/bind.hpp . What is the difference between the two?

They have overlapping functionality, but with semantic differences, they cannot be used interleaved.
