Xcode 4 does not recognize iPhone as a prepared device

My iPhone has a green dot in the organizer, running 4.2.1, and I just upgraded Xcode to 4.0.

When I try to create and run my project on the iPhone, it says that no connected devices are connected. It worked in a previous version of Xcode.

I realized that the preparation is relevant and that the correct security file was selected in the project settings. I also uninstalled Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2.1 to make sure it wasn’t.

I would be grateful for any help. Thanks!

I upgraded the phone to iOS 4.3, and now it works fine in Xcode.

Go to the "Project Settings" section and select "All" in the upper right corner, then make sure that for the purpose of deploying iOS 4.2 (or what has ever been on your device). Then build, it should work.

Make sure the device is set to Use in Development in Organizer.

Does your iPhone appear in iTunes? I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, spending some time figuring out what was wrong with Xcode, and then I realized that my iPhone also didn't appear in iTunes. It turns out that the iTunes update somehow lost the AppleMobileDevices.kext file.

I followed the instructions to completely remove and reinstall iTunes, and it fixed my problem: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224

It happened to me. This confused the project settings of the deployment version with the given configuration.

Therefore, note that you are changing the deployment version of your specific target (in TARGETS-> TargetName), and not just for the project (PROJECT-> ProjectName). Target setting can override project settings.

Set the assembly parameters with the Basic / Levels parameters to find out what will be for the Solved (actual) parameter for the deployment purpose.

I had a similar problem for a moment, on a device that used to be fine, but I just closed and reopened iTunes and Xcode, and that was fine when I opened Xcode again. Not sure if iTunes closed it or closed Xcode, but it worked for me anyway. Definitely the first step to try if your phone used to work fine

I ran into the same problem. Apparently all I needed to do was restart Xcode
