MediaWiki extension for Q & A

Does anyone know about the already existing MediaWiki extension that will allow users to ask questions in the same way as this website or yahoo answers. I was looking for an extension so that users could ask / answer questions referring to specific pages for my wiki, and I was hoping that someone could already implement this.

I was not lucky when I looked at the keywords that I used to describe what I was looking for, resulting in a wide range of results.

I think there are the following options:

  • The simplest discussion page available for each article. You can use the conversation on the main page (see Wikipedia Example - although Wikipedia uses it only to discuss the contents of the main page, and not for general discussion) or Village Pump / Community Project for general discussions. Not perfect, but it works.
  • You can improve this using the LiquidThreads extension. This improves the discussion pages, but does not include the game elements found here (e.g., voting).
  • If you just want to get a community view, you can use a survey like QPoll .
  • Finally, you can use chat .

FWIW - I asked a similar question on meta .

There is currently Wikia Answers , which is essentially a MediaWiki-based site, but with excrement extensions for Q & A.

Many of its extensions are not yet available for download (you can get the site extensions at https://github.com/Wikia

I would ask why you use Wikipedia for such a project in the first place. It is simply not intended for this. I think that you will learn more about a system that thinks of a website as a data set, not a set of documents (this is what WAT is in GREAT). Something like Drupal is going to get you where you want to be much faster than Wikipedia - in fact, it has already been done: https://drupal.org/project/answers . I would not be surprised if something like this exists for joomla or even wordpress.

If you look at Wikipedia because you are already using it for part of your site, there is no reason why you cannot run another CMS with it.
