Android Nine-patch equivalent for other platforms

I just found out about the idea of ​​Android 9-patches, and this is a pretty good idea. My question is whether this is a template for Android or whether there are similar implementations for other platforms, possibly named differently.

On iOS, you can also stretch images in code using StretchableImages. You specify the left, right covers and the "remainder" is stretched. I think that basically the same idea is something like a tutorial on it: http://blog.chomperstomp.com/creating-dynamically-re-sizable-buttons-for-iphone-apps/

There is another SO here question that mentions a library released under the Apache license for iPhone. I have not used it, but worth checking out.
