Favicon not showing, my icon is not good

I can use favicons if I copy one from another site and test. But my own does not work in IE8 / Chrome. Mine is a 32-bit 32-bit icon created by Visual Studio. It seems that I always have problems with the correct operation of the icons, what should I use? I thought that I could have images up to 64x64 in size ...

See this site for instructions on creating favicon.ico - it should be 16 * 16, not 32 * 32 (although you can have a composite .ico with both sizes).

I created composite .ico files with several sizes, so they appear correctly in the browser and on the desktop.

First, to be safe, convert the original icon to .ico using this converter .

Then for compatibility with several browsers (in particular, Internet Explorer) use:

 <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.yoursite.com/youricon.ico" />

Most browsers are smart enough to use any PNG / ICO named favicon.ico located at the root of your site, but this is not always reliable.

The favicon wikipedia page contains a lot of information.

Support for favicons is slightly different from browser to browser, and there is no guarantee that the icon will work on any system. Sometimes the browser simply ignores it for no apparent reason.

To get the broadest browser support you should use the .ico format. The wikipedia page has a compatibility table that describes how each format is widely supported.

You need to use the 16x16.ico file. The 32x32.ico and .png, .jpg files do not always work in browser headers. You may currently find that some browsers support this, but not every browser does, so try to stick with 16x16.ico files.
