IIS8 Win8 and runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests = "true"

I am trying to run an application in IIS8 that has the following configuration file:

<modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" />

IIS8 gives me an error that says ...

This configuration section cannot be used along this path. It happens when a section is locked at the parent level. Locking is done either by default (overrideModeDefault = "Deny") or explicitly specify the tag location with overrideMode = "Deny" or an outdated allowOverride = "false".

I guess the error and a quick SO search, that there is a higher level of security that prevents this line from being allowed. Any ideas?

I solved the same problem by setting the window "Internet Information Service / World Wide Web Service / Application Development /ASP.NET xx" on the Windows8 control panel. If you want to install on Windows Server 2012, the following link gives you a hint. http://www.iis.net/learn/get-started/whats-new-in-iis-8/iis-80-using-aspnet-35-and-aspnet-45

hope this works.

For those of you running Windows Server 2012, application development features are located in

[] Server Roles [] Web Server IIS [] Web Server [] Application Development [] ASP.NET xx

When you select the .NET version, it will ask if you want to add extensions and other features. I just said yes, but you can leave without installing them.

It's hard to give a concrete answer here, but the basics of this are that you need to look at machine.config for the window you are working in. search for system.webServer node and find 3 tags / attributes referencing this error. Most likely, you will find something that is marked as not redefined ( allowOverride="false" ), but I have not confused it with Windows 8 / server 2012, so I don’t know what the machine.config file looks like.
