HTML symbol will not display on Google Chrome

I am making an HTML page that is not published. One of the things I wanted to do was add an icon next to the title. I am using google chrome and I noticed that other sites have icons that appear next to the tile in the browser, but the one I'm trying to display will not appear. The site is located in a folder on my desktop with the name site. This is the code:

A common problem when the icon will not be displayed when expected is the cache if your .htaccess, for example, reads: ExpiresByType image/x-icon "access plus 1 month"

Then just add a random value to your favicon <link rel="shortcut icon" href="https://mysire.com/favicon.ico?r=31241" type="image/x-icon" /> : <link rel="shortcut icon" href="https://mysire.com/favicon.ico?r=31241" type="image/x-icon" />

It works every time for me, even with heavy caching.

Another reason Chrome doesn't display the icon is because it still remembers the time when the site in question didn't have the icon, or the favicon was set incorrectly.

You need to completely erase the favicon cache:

Close all running Chrome processes.

Delete the Favicons file in the user data folder. For example:

 C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Favicons

This cannot be Favicons clearing the browser cache, since it does not affect the Favicons container.

Also note that contrary to what you could read online , favicon resource requests are not displayed in the DevTools Network panel. In very rare cases, one such request may appear there, but this is very unlikely, and DevTools will not help you solve your favicon problems.

1) Clear your chache. http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95582 And test another browser, say, safari. How did you import the badge?

2) How to add it:

Normal icon:

 <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

PNG / GIF Icon:

 <link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="favicon.gif" /> <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="favicon.png" />

3) Another problem may be that chrome cannot display icons if it is local (does not upload to the web server).

4) Try renaming it from favicon.{whatever} to {yourfaviconname}.{whatever} , but I would suggest that you still have a normal icon. This solved my problem in IE.

5) Found another solution for this that works great! I just added my icon as a Base64 encoded image directly inside the tag:

I found that (in Chrome 56, OSX) the favicon state seems to be cached for the life of the browser, so if favicon does not load, it will not until after restarting Chrome . It seems that it does not appear on the "application" tab in the developer tools and is not cleared by a hard reboot or "Clear site data".

Your html is completely incorrect for starters, there should not be a div in your head section or after your body. I suggest you first learn the correct html before you start working with favicons, etc.

This trick works: add this script to header or masterPage for example

  var link = document.createElement('link'); link.type = 'image/x-icon'; link.rel = 'shortcut icon'; link.href = '/favicon.png';

and will be cached. This is not optimal, but it works.

The path must be through a URI (full).

Like: http://example.com/favicon.png

so in your case:

This problem drove me crazy! The solution is quite simple, just add the following to the title tag:

 <link rel="profile" href="http://gmpg.org/xfn/11">

For example:

Since you have a master / in your href, you are referencing a file that will be in the root folder. If you have your page in a folder on your computer without serving it from the local web server, the host will tell the browser to search the root folder of your file system. Therefore, the browser expects the file to be located in C:/favicon.ico or similar, which is probably not the way you expected.

If you have favicon.ico in the same folder as the web page, you can simply remove the leading slash and the icon should be visible.

 <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" />

Update:

As a debugging option, you can try adding a tag that, as you know, works. I took this snippet from StackOverflow source. Try replacing your link tag with this and see if you use the SO logo as an icon.

Update 2:

There seems to be an error message in Chromium where the icon does not appear if the file is downloaded locally, without maintenance via a web server.
