If you use brew to install maven, the settings file should be in

/usr/local/Cellar/maven/<version>/libexec/conf

At first it does not exist. You must create it in your home folder, /Users/usename/.m2/ (or ~/.m2 )

For example:

I found it under / usr / share / java / maven -3.0.3 / conf, 10.8.2

if you installed maven using brew

you can enter the command ("mvn -v") in Terminal

see Maven's home description

-> It is in $ MAVEN_HOME / conf / settings.xml ... where $ MAVEN_HOME is your Maven environmental variable that you downloaded. Otherwise, you can do it too. -> The path to Maven can also be found in the / etc / bashrc file on mac. Get the path to Maven from this file and in this Maven directory you can find the conf / directory inside this directory, you can find settings.xml maven
