In the top-level menu, select "Search" - "File" ... Then at the bottom (in the area) there is a choice to select the entire workspace.

In your "Search for a file a problem" you need to update the files in the workspace, in the Project Explorer / packages, right-click and select "Update" at any level (project, folder, file). This will synchronize the workspace with the underlying file system and prevent the problem.

Press Ctrl + H to open a search, which will include options for searching through a project, directory, etc.

Ctrl + Alt + G can be used to search for selected text in the workspace in eclipse.

Ctrl + H, select "Search for files", specify "file name template", for example * .xml or * .java. Then select the workspace scope.

Many answers explain how to perform a search.

To view the results, find the search tab (usually docked at the bottom of the screen):

eclipse instasearch plugin is a very useful eclipse search plugin. It is based on lucine. It is also available in the eclipse market.

It has an extensive feature set.

  • Instantly displays search results
  • Shows a preview using the appropriate lines.
  • Periodically updates the index
  • Matches partial words (e.g. in CamelCase)
  • Opens and highlights file matches
  • Looks for original JAR attachments
  • Supports filtering by extension / project / working set

Go to Search-> File

You will get a window, you can either give a simple search text or a reg template. After entering the search keyword, click Search and make sure the Area area is the work area.

You can also use this as a replacement.

Eclipse does not search if the File Name Formats field is empty .
So, if you want to find some text, write in the "Contains text" field and leave the default "File Name Templates" with an asterisk (*).
