Convert LaTeX to ePub

Update 2012-02-11: Since my question is quite old, but very popular, I would suggest opening it again. I would like to know if more options are available in a year.

I would like to convert some university documents from LaTeX to ePub format - without using PDF as an intermediate format. You know that PDF is page oriented, while ePub is more stream oriented.

While I found some tips, I was not able to find a good β€œstandard” solution.

Can anyone suggest the perfect way? One that keeps math formulas beautiful?

Pandoc supports latex to e-Pub conversion. The chances are high that he does not completely process your Latex documents, but he should help in the conversion process.

Pandoc converted Tex formulas to Mathml; I do not know how good this conversion is, since I have not used it.

You can generate TeX output in HTML, and then use the Caliber conversion tools. Basically, ePub is a container for HTML documents (just like CHM fwiw). As an alternative, consider BookGlutton and / or LyX
