Is Team Build 2012 compatible with Team Foundation Server 2010?

What is the experience of connecting Team Build 2012 to Team Foundation Server 2010?

We need to create some more build agents, but Team Foundation Server will not be updated until a later time.

Confirmed: this will not work. You must upgrade TFS 2010 to 2012. I got an error trying to install the 2012 build service against TFS 2010:

"Register is not supported for Team Foundation Server [my server] because the server is incompatible."

After updating TFS 2010 to 2012, he set a fine. Please note that updating TFS 2010 to 2012 means backing up the database, uninstalling 2010, installing 2012, and then selecting “Upgrade” from the Configuration Center.

This is happening since Update 2 was released in April 2013 :) See Martin Hinselwood's post: Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 supports 2010 Build Servers .

I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure it won’t work. You must create new TFS 2010 build agents, and then upgrade build agents at the same time as upgrading the TFS server.

You should be able to install 2 versions of the build agent “next door” and disable the 2012 service until you upgrade the TFS server. We did this in the past when upgrading from TFS 2008 - 2010. When upgrading a TFS server, you can disable the 2010 service and enable the 2012 service.
