How stable are multiple instances of R when one instance launches an external program?

Question

I run an external program through R, which is quite hungry and can take> 8 hours. I would like to open another instance of R for other tasks, but I'm worried about the failure of the external program and the need to restart the process. Should I expect any problems in these circumstances? The external program is only a widow, and I run it on the Bootcamp section of the MacBook Pro.

In the corresponding operating system, both instances will be independent and will not interfere with each other. (If they don’t compete for the same resources, this does not look like your description.)

This is no different from several users working on the server, and each of them runs one or two instances ...
