Does Dalvik (Androids JVM) help replace hot code?

I tried with such a simple replacement as changing the value of String, but this does not work. I tried to run the test application in debug mode, but I always get the warning message "Hot Code Replace Failed". Some sources say that it works, but it is very limited and sometimes ignores all changes, others say that it does not work at all.

UPDATE: This behavior is exactly the same (does not work) on the device and the emulator.

Not. Dalvik does not support any hot-code replacement, regardless of whether it is on a device or emulator.

Dalvik itself does not support this, but the necessary functionality can be achieved using additional tools. Do not post the name here because of the minuses for advertising :)
