What methods are available for P2P in the browser?

What options does the web developer offer to implement client-side peer-to-peer systems in a web browser? Some hypothetical examples may be a file sharing service that bypasses a web server after clients find each other or a chat service.

What do I know about:

  • chatroulette uses some flash technology, as discussed here .

  • And I also know Opera Unity , which extends the browser model to cover both client and server, as well as this firefox plugin , which works similarly

  • I also came across this blog post related to the Joose js framework, but I'm not sure if it matters.

  • Support of this type seems that it may or may not be supported by websockets in HTML5 and has been discussed here and here and here .

I recommend that you take a look at the RTMFP protocol in Adobe Flash Player - it seems you can build something close to what you ask with it.
