Windows Phone 8 emulator error. Something happened while creating the switch.

I have a similar problem mentioned in this question:

Unable to create virtual machine

But my mistake in describing the error is slightly different:

enter image description here

The Windows Phone emulator could not create a virtual machine: something happened while creating the switch: Xde could not find the IPv4 address for the host.

I have SLAT compatible hardware, virtualization is included in the BIOS, my Windows 8 installation is 64-bit, and not virtualized. Hyper-V is installed (I tried reinstalling it, but this did not help). EDIT: VirtualBox or any other virtualization software (other than Hyper-V) is not installed

EDIT2: It looks like other network software has been installed. I need to remove it because I need it professionally. I hope they fix it.

EDIT3: I wrote about this in more detail with everything I could find on my blog.

Open Hyper-V Manager from the Start menu and open Virtual Switch Manager. Remove all existing switches and try creating a new virtual switch with the connection type set to internal.

You may need to run XdeCleanup.exe .

This has already been answered, but something helped me (and without removing VirtualBox):

“Go to Hyper V. Go to the virtual switch manager. Create a virtual switch called“ Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch. ”Make it the connection type Internal. Now run the emulator. It should work.

I had to restart my computer before starting the emulator, but now everything works fine: VS2012, Xde and VirtualBox.

For what it's worth, my problems seem to have disappeared after I turned off the "Definistic Network Enhancer" for all vEthernet adapters as follows:

network adapter settings

I got inspiration to try this after Microsoft's online documentation here . See “Reconfiguring the Hyper-V Virtual Adapter Used by the Emulator”.

Hope this is one stick. It was a tedious process, trying to keep up with what works, and not with this "new and improved" emulator.

It worked for me. Open the Windows 8 startup screen. Scroll to the right and see the HyperV plate.

Go to Hyper V. Log in to Virtual Switch Manager. Create a virtual switch called "Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch." Make its connection type Internal.

Now run the emulator. It should work.

It seems that Xde is currently not compatible with Cisco VPN Client v5.x; with a VPN client installed, you really get this error. Removing the Cisco VPN Client resolves this.

This helped me solve the same problem: http://mobileworld.appamundi.com/blogs/petevickers/archive/2012/11/01/troubleshooting-windows-phone-8-emulator-problems.aspx

And no need to remove virtual boxes, even if it works at the same time

Hope this helps someone.

Some of the answers here were helpful, and by testing the trial and error method, I found a solution that worked for me. Note. I have a Cisco VPN client installed on a 64-bit version of Windows 8. I did not want to remove the Cisco client.

  • Open Hyper-V Manager - Virtual Switch Manager and create a virtual switch called "Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch." Enter the connection type "Internal". You do not need to delete existing virtual switches.
  • Open Network Connections. Right-click "vEthernet Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch" and select "Properties." Deselect the "Deterministic Network Enhancer" and click "OK." You can do this with other vEthernet interfaces as well.
  • Run the emulator and it should work.

I found a solution to this stupid mistake. I have been working on this issue for almost 1 month.

I recently did 2 things, and I created a virtual machine emulator in Hyper-V, and also deployed my application to an emulator.

  • DISABLED ANTI-VIRUS. (I used Panda Cloud Anti-Virus)
  • Enable FIREWALL if you disabled

I hope this works.

Thank.

I had some problems with this. In the end, by accidentally disconnecting and enabling my network adapters, I was able to make the virtual switch work even for an external adapter.

I was able to fix this by uninstalling VMWare Player and Virtual Box, and then performing a recovery installation of Windows Phone 8 SDK (Control Panel → Uninstall → Windows Phone 8 SDK → Change → Repair

If this problem occurs in Windows 10, there is an easy fix ... go to:

  • Start menu
  • Settings
  • Network and Internet
  • Status
  • Reset Network

This clears all virtual network adapters so that they can be recreated by the emulator. After rebooting, uninstall the emulator and then recreate it, and it should create the necessary network adapters so that it works.

DISCLAIMER: This method worked for me using Visual Studio Emulator for Android on a Windows 10 computer. I understand that this is not Windows 8 and not a Windows Phone emulator, but the main problem is the same, so if someone lands here and has windows 10, you can try this.
