PhotoShop Image Manipulation Management

Are there any tools for editing PhotoShop files from the command line?

I would like to add steps to our automated build process (MS Build), which uses the original PhotoShop files that our artists create and produce .png files; I consider very few operations such as photoshop-to-png, resizing, and possibly showing / hiding layers. I was not lucky to find a tool that I can use for this.

If it's possible to script this with Photoshop itself or the Photoshop utility, that would be great.

You have several options in your case:

  • Using Variables / Datasets in Photoshop
  • Like b3bop using JavaScript (jsx). The fastest way to get started is to open ExtendScriptToolkit (should be in Adobe Utilities), connect to Photoshop and open the Object Model Viewer for Photoshop. If this helps, Photoshop also supports VB on Windows.
  • Controlling CommandLine with Matlab / Photoshop (although this may be a bit for your current use case).

I know that you want to use Photoshop, but one option without Photoshop is an open source tool called Image Magick. It has a command line tool that is extremely flexible.

Ive never done this, but I believe that you can control the PS using JavaScript. You may find this document helpful: http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/photoshop/pdfs/photoshop_cs5_scripting_guide.pdf

ImageMagick , GraphicsMagick (fork of the first, for the first you used CLI convert , for the last you called gm convert ), nConvert , Krita CLI and, possibly, Gimp CLI or GMIC - all this can do this.

Everyone will take the Photoshop file as input and actually output (if not actually) the entire range of existing image formats (including Photoshop).
