Is it possible to programmatically take pictures from my iphone when there is some movement in front of the camera?

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to take a picture on iOS when there is any movement in front of the camera. For example, is it possible for an application to take a picture when a hand is waving, or just show its face in front of the camera, or throw the ball into the air so that it crosses the line of sight of the camera.

Check out Lucas-Kanade (LK) Optical Flux for iPhone This is an algorithm for estimating optical flux (ie "a picture of the apparent movement of objects, surfaces and edges in a visual scene caused by relative motion between the observer and the scene.")

This can help you detect motion detection, and then you may just have to respond to this event.
