It's impossible. If you published your iPhone-enabled application once, all later versions will also need to support iPhone.

For an iPad application, you will need to publish it as the new application name with a different name and identifier. However, as you probably know, you can lose a lot of users this way.

you need to change two things:

1) The target device family should only be an iPad

2) The deployment target must be compatible with the iPad (at least at the moment 4.3).

After that, I would say, do Clean, then Build and Analyze, to make sure everything is in order.
