GWT Mobile Development

Question

I want to create a GWT application for mobile browsers. My requirements:

• Mobile widgets that work in all modern browsers, including IE, Firefox (and not just webkit).

I did not find well-supported frameworks for this.

I watched:

• mgwt: supported by one developer, works only with webkit, there is no common theme in all browsers.
• SmartGWT Mobile: still in beta, works only on webkit
• jqm4GWT: Not supported, jQuery Mobile dev does not integrate with GWT

Its shame, like GWT, should be very effective for mobile developers compared to the heavy server load when bandwidth is slow (like JSF).

Does anyone have any suggestions for mobile developers with GWT? I am surprised that the demand for mobile GWT is no longer growing given the large increase in the number of mobile browsers.

I decided to use JQM4GWT with some tweaking. This is not perfect, but here are some of my opinions:

• MGWT resources are currently too limited compared to jQuery mobile
• MGWT browser support is actually not very good.
• MGWT community is small
• MGWT widgets don't look very good
• I was not a big fan of the default theme, and I prefer to have a consistent look across all browsers, including the desktop browser.

If we look at the resources of jQuery Mobile and the amount of testing that comes with all different browsers, it's hard to compete. There are a huge number of community error messages that only improve the structure faster, and there is a large team working on the development of the structure.

I hope that Google will allocate more resources for mGWT, and it may be a competitive infrastructure, but I feel that in its current state it is not mature enough and it is much more secure with JQM4GWT in the near future.

I would argue on a combination of mGWT and PhoneGap.
