Meaning? header ("P3P: CP =" IDC DSP COR ADM DEVi TAIi PSA PSD IVAi IVDi CONi HIS OUR CNT IND ");

I often see this code below in posts. What does this mean and how can it hurt or help someone add it to the title?

ob_start(); header('P3P:CP="IDC DSP COR ADM DEVi TAIi PSA PSD IVAi IVDi CONi HIS OUR IND CNT"');

P3P is the platform for the Prefences Privacy project. It is intended to create compact privacy policy statements.

You can break up this statement based on this resource:

  • IDC This is an access descriptor. This provides access to identifiable contact information.
  • DSP This is a privacy policy token regarding dispute resolution.
  • COR . Errors in your service will be resolved by your service.
  • ADM Information may be used for technical support without consent.
  • DEVi : etc. etc. etc. (I will not go through all of these.)

I don’t know why any hacker will include this in the header, but be sure to revert the changes.

The privacy settings platform , or P3P, is a protocol that allows websites to announce their intended use of the information they collect about users browsing. Designed to give users more control over their personal information when browsing, P3P was developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The specification is here: http://www.w3.org/TR/P3P/
