"Android background color" accidentally changed

Question

I have an application with many different screens running on Acer a501 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (1 and 2) devices. Sometimes, without doing anything else, some ViewGroup and TextView on the screen change background colors.

I can't reproduce this with any consistency, but even after I call setBackgroundColor(Color.WHITE) for each of my views, they still randomly turn green, red, yellow, etc.

I use a custom theme, but only to change the appearance of the EditText views.

Has anyone seen this or had a decision to prevent accidentally coloring my views?
