Email_hashes and obsolete connect.registerUsers

It is very important that Facebook Connect and Facebook users do not duplicate on our website. Therefore, if they already have an account on our website, when they connect via FB Connect or our Facebook application, we want to link, not create another account. Usually we do this by matching email addresses.

Therefore, I was glad to see the FQL field for email_hashes in the user object. However, this does not return anything. I think I need to use the connect.registerUsers REST api function to send facebook all the email hashes for my users first. This is fine, but this mechanism is now outdated.

Is there a way to get email hashes from Facebook users?

The only way is still as you described in detail, and as described at connect.registerUsers . email_hashes will be populated if you first call connect.registerUsers, and there is email matching. I would not worry too much about it being deprecated since I assume that they will not remove this functionality without first transferring the api graph, as they say, what they will do on the documentation page.
