Is there an equivalent App-V / Docker for Mac OSX?

Windows has a virtualization application tool called App-V .

Linux seems to have a similar tool called Docker .

My question is , is there a Docker equivalent for MacOS X ? (i.e. without having to twist the Linux virtual machine to VirtualBox?)

There is no strict analogue for OS X. If you are against deploying a Linux virtual machine, your options are:

  • Simple chroot prison. The jailkit utility can help you with this.

  • For your own OS X applications, use the Sandbox application to limit the resources that your application has access to.

Again, none of them resemble Docker 0.x, which uses LXC under covers.

The chroot solution is closer, as it is one of the components that LXC is built on. However, it does not provide kernel namespaces or something like cgroups - both of them are two very important parts of LXC.
