Curl cannot access github.com due to "unknown message digest algorithm"

Question

I try to install RVM all day, and all this time I hang up with a whorl that refuses to connect to https://github.com .

Here is my current error: curl: (35) error:0D0890A1:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_verify:unknown message digest algorithm

Here is the log output when I use the verbose flag:

I am on a MacBook Pro 2011 running Mavericks (10.9.2). Brew says my curls and my opensl are relevant.

Initially, curl told me that github does not have the proper SSL certificate, but I was finally able to get around this with this command: export CURL_CA_BUNDLE="/System/Library/OpenSSL/certs/cacert.pem"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I get it. It turns out that my environment did not use the system curl, it used the curl version of Anlonda, which is deprecated and not tied to the OSX keychain. I just used conda remove curl to get rid of it, and now everything is working fine.

I had the same error; I tried the "-k" option and it worked.
