Clean Build Folder option disabled in Xcode 5

I have an iOS project that builds and works fine, but the Clean Build ... option is disabled. In fact, it is disabled in all my projects (all iOS, some in workspaces).

They have not been updated from a previous version of Xcode, as discussed in this thread .

To view the Clean Build Folder... option, hold down the selection key while viewing the Product menu.

What can be done to turn it on?

Update:

Almost a year later. Currently on Xcode 6.3. Not lucky yet.

I have tried the following steps. Preference → Location → For the received data, click "Advanced". Inside the assembly point, select "Unique." The "Clear folder" button will appear again.

I had this problem with a project in Xcode 8, and I found that in addition to the mentioned @ycwjjjj setting, I also needed to check File → Workspace Settings… → Advanced… and switch from Custom Settings to Unique (or Xcode Default ).
