Ubuntu host stuck in installing vmware tools

I installed unbuntu 12.04 LTS on a VMware 7.0 workstation, and VMware used "Easy Mode".
When I complete the installation, VMware automatically installed VMware Tools, and it got stuck on this scene. The scene looks like this:

****************************************************************** ****************************************************************** Vmware Easy Install PLEASE WAIT! VMware Tools is currently being installed on your system. Depending on the version of Ubuntu you are installing, you may log in below and use the system during intallation. Otherwise, please wait for the graphical environment to launch. Thank you. ****************************************************************** ****************************************************************** ubuntu login:_

I can log in and use the command "sudo / etc / init.d / lightdm start" to go to the graphical interfaces, but I have to do this every time I use this system.

And I waited a very long time, and VMware still told me to wait .....

Any solutions?

Follow 3 steps ...

  • Restore file /etc/issue :

    sudo mv /etc/issue.backup /etc/issue

  • Recover the file /etc/rc.local :

    sudo mv /etc/rc.local.backup /etc/rc.local

  • Restore file /etc/init/lightdm.conf :

    sudo mv /opt/vmware-tools-installer/lightdm.conf /etc/init

Then reboot.

I had the same issue with Worksattion 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.

I tried the suggested solutions, however they did not work.

What worked for me was to first create a virtual machine by selecting the option "I will install the OS later"

then mount iso on the CDROM through the settings window and download it.

It works for the first time.

also after its finished copying files will disconnect the CD-ROM upon reboot

Here is an alternative approach: https://askubuntu.com/questions/126229/12-04-stuck-at-vmare-easy-install

I have not tested this - now there is no priority, but I have the same problem. Since I only use Ubuntu for testing, this is not so bad, but strange. Installed Ubuntu with 6.06 LTS in VMWare and never encountered this problem (had other problems though ;-))

when it goes to VMWare, just install it, try installing autoinst.iso, you also need to disconnect the disk and the disk with the image, which should fix the problem.

An even simpler and cleaner way to fix this is to shut down your virtual machine, go to properties and remove the floppy drive. Then run it and voila!

The same thing happens to me. I don't really have a solution (other than what startx might be called instead of lightdm), but I have something that seemed to be working, so maybe this will help in something. (most of them are exactly what he tells you).

Before you start, take a picture.

I started vm, disconnected my virtual CD-Drive, switched to Vm> Install VMWareTools and clicked install. Then I installed the cd-rom drive, ejected the tarball to my desktop and ran the .pl script there. Then he went through the installation settings (I just used all the default values) and finally said that it was done and I have to log out and log in.

VMWare seems to believe that VMWare tools are installed, but the screen is still displayed, and now the mouse cannot click on pop-ups (for example, the shutdown window). I need to go back, but I will try again, this time reading what installation settings I use.
