Leave the Android application in the final state at the end of the espresso test

Is it possible to leave the application under test in any state at the end of the espresso test? I don't care, failure or success. When I work on developing a function and testing for this function, it would be useful to just stop the toolkit application and leave the application under control only in the state in which it is. This will allow me to play manually or attach a debugger and see what happens without starting the entire thread manually.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

There are several characters in the game who are trying to kill your actions ... Finally, I had to provide a custom rule and a custom runner to get the behavior I wanted. Documented here:
