What will happen if I never finished a session in php

I am wondering what will happen if I do not limit the session time.

Will this affect the server?

Is this considered bad practice? if so, why?

There is a session garbage collector that usually starts periodically and cleans up old sessions. There are php.ini options that determine how many years to delete a session.
